Front End Module (FEM)

By streamlining and installing the front-end components on the core support of the radiator, we are making the module easy to assemble and disassemble. We are also reducing the quantity of parts, weight and costs.
The specific measures include:

  • Simple parts installation
  • Major functions of the front-end components
  • Body frame
  • Taking in and cooling air
  • Protecting the vehicle and its occupants in the event of a collision
  • Properly illuminating the front of the vehicle

Calsonic Kansei is the first manufacturer in the world to successfully mass produce aluminum radiators. The radiators are made using proprietary technologies in the brazing process and feature a corrosion-resistant design. The outstanding performance advantages over the conventional brass radiators include fifty-percent reduction in both weight and thicknes, heat dissipation efficiency per unit mass that is 4.6 times higher and a service life that is three times longer. Our radiators are advancing each day in achieving higher performance and lighter weight.

Radiator Core Support

There are three product lines of the radiator core support. In addition to the traditional all-steel type, there is an all-resin type that offers lighter weight and a hybrid type that consists of a combination of resin and steel, which offers advantages in both weight and strength. Calsonic Kansei produced the all-resin type and the hybrid type in 2000. As the radiator core support incorporates some of the functions of the body frame, it is necessary to use materials in different ways. The required level of strength and sturdiness for the radiator core support differs according to the platform.


Condensers discharge the interior heat to the outside of the car. They are installed in the engine compartment, and discharge the interior heat captured by the evaporator to the outside of the vehicle. Calsonic Kansei designs and manufactures its own condensers.

Charge Air Cooler

The air drawn into a turbo engine is heated in the turbocharger. Therefore, if the air is drawn into the engine at high temperature, the power of the engine will decline. The internal air cooler is a heat exchanger that cools the high-temperature air from the air intake, and is indispensable in increasing power output, improving fuel efficiency and managing exhaust gas.

Oil Coolers

This oil cooler is a heat exchanger that uses an air-cooling system to maintain the optimized oil temperature of automobile oils, including engine oil and ATF (automatic transmission oil.) This oil cooler is a multilayer type and it can be easily adjusted to the required performance by changing the number of layers.

Motor Fan Assembly

This is a cooling system for preventing the engine from heating and for maintaining the right temperature. This is also for ensuring cooling capability of the air conditioner.
It is an important part for exchanging heat radiated out of the radiator and condenser with cooling wind from cooling fan.
In general it is considered that FF (front wheel drive) vehicle equips engine fan. However, FR vehicle also tends to equip motor fan recently.
